Medical Need
Despite the introduction of several new anti-cancer agents in recent years, all anti-cancer drugs fall into a few select classes, based on their mechanism of action (how they kill tumor cells). In most instances of metastatic disease, treatment is not curative because the cancer cells become resistant to the treatment drugs. Hence, there is a requirement for new classes of drugs for cancer patients who no longer respond to available treatments, i.e. for drugs that kill tumor cells via a mechanism which is different to that of existing drugs. Finding a new way of killing resistant cancer cells at the metastatic stage of the disease represents a high unmet medical need. Niiki Pharma’s mission is to develop such innovative first-in-class anti-cancer drugs.
